samwarburtonWe’ve had a busy few weeks here at Station Rd and one of the things we’ve worked on is a creative PR stunt with our friends at Wok To Go Cardiff. As a passionate Welsh business they enlisted pop culture portrait artist, Nathan Wyburn, to create Sam Warburton out of soy sauce in their store on Caerphilly Road in honour of the Rugby World Cup. We’re always excited to work with local businesses, so we couldn’t wait to get started on this.

With the World Cup in full swing, we saw this as a wonderful opportunity to get involved in something current and topical to promote both Wok To Go and Nathan Wyburn. Our oddball story was covered nationally in the Metro as well as regionally in the South Wales Evening Post and Made in Cardiff.

Nathan is famous for creating art out of food and many people will recognise his talents from Britain’s Got Talent in 2011, where he recreated Simon Cowell out of toast. He has a book coming out next month displaying his best works of art which we’re sure many NathanWyburnpeople will be rushing out to buy after his latest display.

As part of our media relations strategy, we helped secure opportunities with national sports radio station, TalkSport radio, for their afternoon show where Nathan was able to talk about this piece of work and his upcoming book, ‘Not That Kind of Art’, due for release in November. We also got Made in Cardiff involved, who filmed Nathan in the Wok to Go store alongside his art work.

The portrait is showcased in Wok to Go Cardiff and since it has been there it has supported footfall MetroSamwith many coming in to see the piece and has raised awareness of the brand through media and online engagement. Sam Warburton, who was otherwise engaged at a training camp, got involved and tweeted Nathan ‘very impressive, thank you!’

We’re always happy to see such talent recognised in the press, especially when it involves working with local businesses in Wales. We can’t wait to see what Wok To Go Cardiff and Nathan Wyburn do next! Never underestimate the power of a creative PR stunt and photo opportunity.
